Denise Stadter, Clinical Director of Behavioral Health at CFI was recently featured in a story aired by KCCI Channel 8 News on navigating traumatic events with children.
“Let them know that their reactions and responses are valid, and it’s okay to ask questions and to talk about it as much as they need to,” stated Stadter, “Give space for the child to guide the conversation like, ‘I know that there was something scary that happened in our community today and I’m wondering if you want to talk about it. If you have thoughts about what’s going on [or] if you have questions, I’m happy to answer those and let’s just have some space to talk about what’s going on and what we’re feeling.”
