Michael State, LMHC

Licensed Clinician

I am an authentic, supportive, and compassionate clinician. My clinic experience includes working with adolescents and adults with depression, anxiety, trauma, intimate partner violence, addiction, marital concerns, and behavioral concerns. My style of therapy focuses on creating a non-judgmental and genuine environment by implementing support and encouragement throughout the therapeutic process. Through this, trust begins to be built, and the therapeutic work can begin. I believe it is an honor to be in the presence of all my clients willing to explore some of the most intimate aspects of life. I currently work with clients from adolescence through adulthood.

I attended Iowa State University, where I received a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice. I then obtained a Master of Arts in Counseling at Adler University with a specialization in Forensic Psychology. I am currently a Licensed Mental Health Clinician in the state of Iowa. I previously worked in Chicago, IL, as a medication-assisted treatment (MAT) counselor. I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and can utilize this in the healing journey with clients.

Outside of my professional role, I enjoy spending time with family and friends. You may find me outside connecting with nature, exploring new restaurants, and enjoying sitting down and playing video games. My interests include astronomy, sci-fi, and documentaries.
