Alexis Adamowski, MHC intern

MHC intern

I obtained my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, with a minor in General Business, from Iowa State University. I am now completing my master’s degree in clinical mental health at Drake University. I believe there is so much power in saying the hard things out loud, being genuinely listened to, and truly heard. This is why I am a master’s level intern on track to become a Licensed Mental Health Counselor.

It is an honor to get to sit beside people as they embark on the journey to better understand themselves, the things they have experienced, what their mental health and life goals are, and how they can move closer to those goals. I utilize person-centered therapy as I believe YOU are the expert of your own life, and my job is to help you see what already lies within you. I conduct therapy through a trauma-informed lens and view trauma as the true underlying cause of many of the symptoms associated with mental illness.

In both my professional role as a therapist and in my personal life, I hold deep respect for family, culture, individuality, human resilience, integrity, empathy, patience, and the strength of community. I will ensure that the things that matter most to YOU are also consistently incorporated in our therapeutic journey together. I am interested in working with people from birth through the lifespan with a full spectrum of mental health and life experiences, particularly depression, trauma, domestic violence, body image issues, prenatal/postpartum/motherhood, and suicidal ideation.

Outside of the therapy office, I am a mother and a wife. I enjoy spending time with my family, taking my dogs for walks, baking, and always listening to music. I am so very excited and privileged to be at Children & Families of Iowa, where I will begin serving my community as a counselor intern.
