April 27, 2017, Des Moines, Iowa – On Saturday, May 13, community members are invited to donate gently used household items during the FreeStore’s tenth annual “Fill the Mayflower” event. Between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., individuals are able to drop off their items at the corner of Valley West Drive and Westown Parkway in the designated collection area of the parking lot at Valley West Mall.

The FreeStore is partnering with Children & Families of Iowa (CFI), Valley West Mall and Select Van and Storage to provide essential items to domestic violence victims in need of household goods. Items needed include: twin and bunk beds, vacuum cleaners, sheets and blankets (any size), lamps, microwaves, kitchen items, and other small household appliances and furniture. Cash donations are also welcome. Please note, the FreeStore is unable to accept large furniture items at this event.

In the last three years the FreeStore has provided 788 families – including 908 adults and 1,246 children – with furniture and household items.
