Des Moines, Iowa – The Principal Financial Group Foundation has awarded Children & Families of Iowa (CFI) with $15,000 that will help support programming aimed at teaching financial literacy to youth.
CFI works with more than 1,350 at-risk youth annually through a variety of programs that include; substance abuse treatment, mental health therapy and educational/vocational preparedness. CFI works with youth to develop their self-sufficiency goals and strategies for meeting benchmarks toward those goals. Support from Principal Financial Group Foundation is especially critical for CFI clients, who are low-income with little or no financial management experience.

“Most people strive to be financially independent; however, the youth we work with often have not been taught the basics such as opening a checking/savings accounts, and balancing a budget,” says Children & Families of Iowa’s CEO Gloria Gray. “Our teen programs focus on these areas so our clients can get started down the right path with their finances and feel confident in their ability to manage their financial situation.”

The Principal Financial Group Foundation has been a long-time supporter of CFI’s efforts in helping Iowans learn to become independent, including participation as a Tango sponsor for the last several years.
