Des Moines, Iowa – The FreeStore is partnering with Children & Families of Iowa (CFI), Select Van and Storage–a Mayflower company, and Valley West Mall for the sixth annual Fill the Mayflower event, scheduled for Friday, May 16 and Saturday, May 17.
Children & Families of Iowa helps thousands of domestic violence victims each year. Many victims who flee abusive situations are forced to leave their belongings behind. The FreeStore is a volunteer-run nonprofit organization that helps victims furnish their new apartments by providing gently used furniture and household items.
Spring cleaning is underway in many households and provides an opportunity to fill the Mayflower by donating new or gently used furniture and household items to a worthy cause. Donations will be delivered to the FreeStore and distributed to victims of domestic violence as they set up their new homes. Monetary donations are always welcome and will be utilized to purchase items in most need and help families get started with toiletries and cleaning supplies.
This year’s Fill the Mayflower event will be held Friday, May 16, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Saturday, May 17, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. in the southwest corner of the Valley West Mall parking lot—corner of Westown Parkway and Valley West Drive. Volunteers will be on hand to help unload donations.
Items most needed this year include kitchen chairs, end tables and coffee tables. By participating in this donation drive you will be helping a family who has experienced domestic violence start a new chapter in their lives. Thanks to donors like you, the FreeStore was able to provide furniture and household goods to meet the needs of over 1,000 survivors of domestic violence over the last four years.
