Des Moines, Iowa – The FreeStore is partnering with Children & Families of Iowa (CFI), Select Van and Storage–a Mayflower company, and Valley West Mall for the fifth annual Fill the Mayflower event, scheduled for Friday, May 10 and Saturday, May 11.
CFI helps thousands of domestic violence victims each year. Many victims who flee abusive situations often are forced to leave their belongings behind. The FreeStore is a volunteer-run nonprofit organization that helps victims furnish their new apartments by providing gently used household items.
Spring cleaning is underway in many households and you can help fill the Mayflower by donating new or gently used household items. The items will be delivered to the FreeStore and distributed to victims of domestic violence, free of charge, as they set up their new apartments. Monetary donations are also always welcome and will be utilized to purchase items in most need and help families get started with toiletries and cleaning supplies.
This year’s Fill the Mayflower event will be held Friday, May 10, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Saturday, May 11, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. in the southwest corner of the Valley West Mall parking lot—corner of Westown Parkway and Valley West Drive. Volunteers will be on hand to help unload donations.
Items most needed this year include double and queen mattresses, microwaves, vacuums, twin sheets, and kitchen utensils. By participating in this donation drive you will be helping a family who has xperienced domestic violence start a new chapter in their lives. Thanks to donors like you, the FreeStore was able to provide furniture and household goods to meet the needs of over 1,000 individuals over the last four years.
