Des Moines, Iowa – A group of John Deere Des Moines Works employees donated their time to assemble 100 literacy kits donated by United Way of Central Iowa’s Women’s Leadership Connection for the children at Children & Families of Iowa’s (CFI) Child Development Center.
Fifty of the literacy kits included the book “The Napping House” and the other 50 included “Lunch”. Each kit contained props relative to one of these books which are designed to help the children with reading and comprehending the stories.
CFI’s Child Development Center provides quality, affordable child care to low-income families. Many of the children attending are at-risk of falling behind once they start school. CFI helps prepare them for Kindergarten so they are more likely to keep up with their peers. “CFI relies heavily on the generous support of donors to maintain the highest quality in our programming,” says Gloria Gray, Executive Director. “We appreciate United Way of Central Iowa’s Women’s Leadership Connection and John Deere Des Moines Works’ contributions towards CFI’s mission of restoring hope, building futures, and changing lives all across Iowa.”
A group of John Deere Des Moines Works employees dropped off the literacy kits and were able to take a tour of the Child Development Center to see firsthand the program that helps hundreds of families each year.
