Des Moines, Iowa – Children & Families of Iowa (CFI) is hosting its 10th annual Tango gala on Saturday, August 11 at the Sheraton Hotel in West Des Moines to raise funds to support domestic violence programming in Central Iowa.

Guests will enjoy a spectacular evening including hors d’ oeuvres and dancing, as well as live and silent auctions. Some highlights of the auction will include the opportunity to bid on trips to tropical destinations such as Maui and Portugal, spa services, jewelry, dinners, and much more. Tickets for Tango are priced at $86 per person, which reflects the cost of a single night of shelter and services provided by CFI’s Domestic Violence Services.

Last year, CFI provided critical assistance and support services to nearly 9,000 victims of domestic violence through state and local emergency hotlines, shelter, counseling and support groups, and transitional housing. CFI victims’ advocates assist clients in hospital or court settings, as well as connect them with community resources to help them build safe, independent lives free from violence.

“When victims escape an abusive relationship, they often have little more with them than the clothes on their back,” says Gloria Gray, CFI Executive Director. “They might have dependent children with them, and may also be struggling with other challenges such as mental health, unemployment or substance abuse. CFI provides safe shelter and connection to the vital resources and support needed to begin the path towards a safe and independent life. Funds raised through the generosity of attendees at Club Tango amounted to more than $158,000 last year, all of which went directly to the Domestic Violence Services operated by CFI.”
