The virtual 2021 CFI Conference on Domestic Violence will feature the documentary film Finding Jenn’s Voice with a panel discussion featuring the film director, local experts and a domestic violence survivor from the film. Continuing Education Credits (CEUs) (2.25 contact hours) available.
Finding Jenn’s Voice examines homicide as a leading cause of death during pregnancy and the nature of abusive relationships. The documentary was inspired by the murder of Jennifer Snyder at the hands of her married boyfriend after he learned she was pregnant. The film includes interviews with leading researchers across the country and features the voices of survivors of intimate partner homicide attempts. Tracy Schott
Panel Facilitator, Film Director/Producer:
Tracy Schott, MSW, MS is the Producer / Director of Finding Jenn’s Voice, the award-winning documentary film about intimate partner homicide featured in Voices4Change. She has presented to audiences internationally on abusive relationships, pregnancy, and the media’s role in shaping the narrative on domestic violence. Tracy began her career as a social worker but left to pursue her interest in creating social change through media. Tracy has produced, written and directed hundreds of projects including short films, TV commercials and content.
Merrily Melson
Survivor from Finding Jenn’s Voice documentary:
Merrily Melson is a mother of 2, but one is an angel above taken from her. Her first born was 2 years 9 months and 20 days old when he was murdered by his own father as punishment to Merrily.
It has been 12 and a half years since that horrible day. Now she honors her precious angel Andrew in every way she can while raising his amazing brother who only knows him through Merrily’s memories and photos. Merrily hopes that sharing their story can spark change where and when it is needed.
Pat Rogness
VP of Behavioral Health, Children & Families of Iowa:
Pat Rogness, LMHC, CADC, is the VP of Behavioral Health Services at Children & Families of Iowa. Pat has oversite of the largest domestic violence shelter and outreach advocacy services in the state of Iowa. Pat is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and is trained in numerous evidence-based practices, including: Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, EMDT (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing), and CPP (Child-Parent Psychotherapy). Pat is also a Certified Alcohol & Drug Counselor and thus is able to impacts persons and families with co-occurring disorders.
Shantelle Melton
Domestic Violence Advocate:
Shantelle Melton is a Domestic Violence Advocate with Children & Families of Iowa’s Domestic Violence Services. She provides intensive case management to shelter clients, including goal planning, identifying barriers, empowering clients to face challenges and increase self-sufficiency, developing safety plans, identifying the cycle of violence and red flags. Shantelle facilitates support groups at shelter in self-care and problem solving, and advocates with local property managers to ensure fair and safe housing for clients with high barriers such as felonies, and poor/low credit history and previous evictions.
Attendance is free, but registration is required.
